Sohail, Ahsan crash out of Sindh Cup

KARACHI: Seventh seed Mubashir Sohail and eighth seed Ahsan Ali crashed out of the 3rd Junior Sindh Cup Snooker Tournament after losing their second successive game here at the Aly’s Snooker Parlour on Thursday.

Second seed Yasir Khan, fourth seed Asad Kamani and sixth seed Fahad Khan also suffered defeats in their second game but they still stood a chance of advancing to the quarter-finals by performing well in their third and final league outing on Saturday.

After a couple of days of action, on which eight matches were held each day, the organisers have decided to observe a rest day on Friday (today) and the last eight league matches would be held on Saturday (tomorrow).

A total of 16 cueists, divided equally in four groups, have entered the tournament. At the end of the league matches the top two cueists from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals. All the eight quarter-finalists will be allowed direct entry in the Junior National Snooker Championship 2010 scheduled to be held next month.

Top seeded Nazir Alam smashed Johnny in straight while third seed Abdul Rahman was equally ruthless in demolishing Ahsan Butt. Fifth seed Fayyaz Shafi had to bring all his expertise into play to tame Taha Kareem.
